Introduction: Congenital syphilis is a chronic disease caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. The infection occurs through transplacental transmission. Pregnant women who test positive for syphilis must begin immediate and appropriate treatment to reduce the risks of transmission and complications for the fetus. Nursing care plays an essential role in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of syphilis. Objective: To analyze, through a literature review, the role of nursing in the diagnosis and treatment of congenital syphilis. Methodology: This study is a literature review conducted using the Virtual Health Library (BVS) with the following DeCS terms: "congenital syphilis," "nursing care," and "prenatal care." Inclusion criteria were all articles in Portuguese, English, and Spanish published in the last ten years, while theses, dissertations, and incomplete works were excluded. Results and Discussion: Proper management of gestational syphilis is essential. Quality prenatal care is a strategic point in combating syphilis and preventing vertical transmission of the disease. The role of nurses is fundamental in this process, as their appropriate actions, based on technical and scientific knowledge, can directly impact the control and prevention of congenital syphilis. Conclusion: Therefore, knowledge and training of nursing professionals regarding syphilis are crucial for improving the quality of prenatal care, ensuring the health and well-being of both mother and baby.
