FINANCIAL BARRIERS: HIGH COURT COSTS AND ACCESS TO JUSTICE IN BAHIA

This article discusses the difficulty of accessing justice in the State of Bahia due to high legal costs. Its objective is to analyze and highlight the challenges faced by citizens of Bahia in accessing the judicial system, especially those with limited financial resources. The article seeks to investigate how high legal costs can represent a significant barrier to accessing justice and how this can affect the effectiveness of the judicial system as a whole. This article was prepared based on bibliographic studies, consulting the Federal Constitution of 1988, the Code of Civil Law, the Code of Civil Procedure, and also legal scholars and jurists in the area. The qualitative methodology was used, and the supervision of the advisor, developing the project in stages, which were: sources, data collection (articles on the subject, legislation, legal scholars), interpretation of data collection, discussion on the subject and results, and ethical aspects. This article seeks to analyze the impacts and consequences of high legal costs in Bahia, including economic, structural and legal factors, examining the impacts of high legal costs on people's ability to seek and obtain justice, assessing the social groups most affected by high legal costs and their consequences, such as socioeconomic inequalities and lack of access to legal resources, investigating existing initiatives to mitigate high legal costs in Bahia, such as legal aid programs, fee exemptions and legislative reforms.
