This article aimed to investigate whether parental divorce, specifically experienced during the adolescence of their children, impacts the formation of their romantic relationships. Adopting a qualitative approach, the research included the participation of 10 (ten) young adults, aged between 20 (twenty) and 25 (twenty-five) years, consisting of 5 (five) women and 5 (five) men, from the state of Paraná. Using a semi-structured online questionnaire as a method, which included closed and open-ended questions to capture detailed perceptions about the impact of parental separation, alongside an integrative literature review. The results indicate that, although there is considerable variation in reactions to events related to separation and divorce, the majority of participants identified that these events led to changes in their attitudes, such as greater insecurity and mistrust in long-term bonds in their romantic lives. However, some also viewed the divorce as a relief from dysfunctional family dynamics, thus providing a better understanding of the perception of those who experienced this phenomenon. The research highlights the need for initiatives aimed at minimizing the negative impacts of parental divorce while offering significant contributions to professional practices and supporting new studies, serving as a resource for professionals seeking to better understand the topic and conduct targeted interventions related to divorce and its implications for all involved.
