Ionizing radition (IR) is a type of beam that has enough energy to remove electrons from atoms. This can cause damage to biological material such as cells and tissues in the human body, leading to adverse health effects. This article aims to define the correct time for exposure to radiation for professionals and emphasize the importance of using protective equipment for safety. From this perspective, it is extremely important that radiologists have ongoing education in order to expand their knowledge of new protocols and guidelines. The method used to develop the research is a literature review of a descriptive and investigative nature, involving qualitative data. Taking professional responsibility, they must promote conduct and strategies to ensure their safety. It can be concluded that the radiologist must follow all regulations related to the exercise of the profession with a view to safety and well-being, thus avoiding harm to the professional's health.
