The aim of this study is to examine the side effects of benzodiazepines in pregnant women, considering the implications for maternal and fetal health. The analysis focuses on the main risks associated with the use of these substances during pregnancy, such as congenital malformations, complications during childbirth, and impacts on neonatal development. To this end, an integrative literature review was carried out with articles from databases such as PubMed and FDA, covering clinical studies and reviews published between 2012 and 2024. The objectives include: identifying the main adverse effects of benzodiazepines in pregnant women, investigating the relationship with malformations, such as oral clefts and heart defects, analyzing obstetric complications (such as premature birth and cesarean sections), and evaluating neonatal consequences, such as withdrawal syndrome and low birth weight. Furthermore, the study aims to review current guidelines on the safe use of these medications during pregnancy, with the aim of providing safe therapeutic guidance and avoiding indiscriminate use. The study highlights the importance of prenatal consultations and pharmaceutical monitoring, which can help provide guidance on the correct use of benzodiazepines, helping to prevent dependence and adverse effects.
