This study aims to analyze the strategies used by nurses in primary health care to prevent vertical transmission of HIV, highlighting its importance in maternal and child health. The methodology employed was a systematic review, including searches in databases such as PubMed, SciELO, BVS, and Google Scholar, using descriptors focused on topics such as prenatal screening, nursing interventions, and postnatal care, and applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results indicated that nurses play a key role in the early identification of HIV-positive pregnant women, prevention of vertical transmission, and promotion of adherence to antiretroviral treatment, providing health education on newborn care. It was concluded that the nurse's role is essential to ensure the health of pregnant women and improve the chances of a healthy pregnancy with no risk to the newborn, reinforcing the need for an integrated and humanized approach to care for this group.
