Ageing is a natural process that causes various changes to the body and appearance, affecting self-esteem. To help with this, aesthetic procedures have been developed, one of the best known being the application of botulinum toxin, in which the biomedical aesthetician has emerged as an important professional in this context, committed to the health and beauty of patients. This research sought to understand the origin and application of botulinum toxin in aesthetic biomedicine. The methodology used was a literature review, in which the materials were searched through virtual libraries and databases such as Periódicos CAPES, Google Acadêmico and Scientific Electronic Library online (SCIELO), using the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS): aesthetic biomedicine, botulinum toxin type A. The article provides a scientific basis that reinforces that the biomedical esthetician is a qualified professional to deal with treatments involving botulinum toxin, managing to promote good results, using the benefits of the substance and preventing adverse effects.
