Lung cancer is the most frequently diagnosed malignant neoplasm worldwide, although significant local differences exist. It is characterized by the uncontrolled growth of cells in lung tissue, with smoking being the primary risk factor. Early diagnosis is essential for the management and prognosis of the disease. According to 2023 estimates, lung neoplasia in Brazil is the third most common among men, with approximately 18,020 new cases, and the fourth among women, with about 14,540 new cases. This epidemiological study, which adopts a descriptive quantitative analysis approach, aims to verify and demonstrate the epidemiological profile of patients with lung cancer between 2020 and 2023. Data from the public platform of the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS) were used, collecting information on sex, age group, staging, and therapeutic modality, as well as observing where the highest number of lung cancer diagnoses occurs in each of the analyzed categories. Thus, this study contributes to a better understanding of the epidemiological profile of patients with lung cancer, with the intention of increasing the effectiveness of prevention and health promotion actions for these patients.
