Endometriosis is a chronic gynecological disease, with significant morbidity and high prevalence in Brazil. The diagnostic difficulty and the uncertainty of its etiopathogenesis have made this condition an important public health issue. It is a benign, estrogen-dependent and multifactorial disease that mainly affects women of reproductive age. It can be defined by the presence of endometrial tissue, outside the uterus, predominantly in the female pelvis. It has a variable clinical picture, and although it can present itself asymptomatically, its symptoms include chronic pelvic pain and infertility. As a result of these factors, diagnosis is often late and treatment is inadequate. Therefore, determining the most vulnerable groups and populations at risk, on an individual basis, is essential in directing public policies.
