This article aims to analyze the challenges in obtaining the Continuous Cash Benefit (BPC) from the INSS, with an emphasis on socioeconomic verification. The research adopts a comprehensive approach, addressing not only the condition of being elderly or disabled but also the social and environmental factors that impact the lives of beneficiaries. Conducted through studies in INSS agencies in the state of Tocantins, with support from bibliographic sources and case law, the investigation identified as the main obstacles the criterion of ¼ of the minimum wage per family member, which inadequately restricts access to the benefit, as well as the complexity and ineffectiveness of the socioeconomic assessment criteria, excessive bureaucracy, and the lack of resources and adequate support for social workers to conduct comprehensive evaluations, covering all aspects of the applicant’s life. The study highlights the importance of social assessment as an essential tool to ensure that the BPC effectively serves those who truly need it, promoting a more inclusive and humanized public policy.
