Adult dog encephalitis is one of the clinical presentations of canine cinomosis, a highly contagious viral disease that affects the central and peripheral nervous system of dogs. Caused by the canine cinomosis virus (CDV) of the Paramyxoviridae family and belongs to the genus Morbillivirus. Was referred to the Veterinary Clinic in July 2023 a male dog, without a defined race, with approximately one year of age, with symptoms compatible with the diagnosis of distemper. The specific case offers a unique perspective on the experience of a dog affected by this condition. Through its clinical history, we can examine in PCR samples the use of reactions of specific primers and probes, where fragments of RNA virus from cytomosis are concluded. Due to the persistence of the virus in several tissues, the condition of the animal obtained a severe multisystemic development, together with the success of the vaccine. Throughout the treatment, the animal did not obtain improvement in the symptomatology and its neurological picture was worsened, and the eutapnasia of the animal was indicated. The complexity of encephalitis due to cinomosis in adult dogs is explored, highlighting the importance of early recognition of clinical signs and adequate therapeutic intervention to improve the chances of recovery.
