The HIV/AIDS infection among the elderly population in Paraná is a growing concern, with a significant increase in cases among individuals over 60 years old between 2012 and 2022. This trend reveals shortcomings in prevention policies, which often overlook the needs of older adults—a demographic that, despite being more sexually active due to increased longevity, lacks information about safe practices and prevention. Social stigma related to sexuality in older age and the lack of sexual education are factors that contribute to risky behaviors, such as unprotected sex. Furthermore, the presence of comorbidities and polypharmacy complicates HIV treatment, making a multidisciplinary approach that integrates physical and mental health essential. The study highlights the urgent need for tailored public policies, specific educational campaigns, and social support, aiming not only to reduce the incidence of new cases but also to improve the quality of life for elderly individuals living with the disease.
