Hepatorenal syndrome (HRS) is a severe complication of liver cirrhosis, characterized by the deterioration of renal function in the context of advanced liver disease. This article reviews the literature on HRS, addressing its pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment options. Hemodynamic, neuro-hormonal, and inflammatory mechanisms are discussed as contributing factors to the development of the syndrome. Furthermore, the importance of early identification and multidisciplinary management is emphasized to improve clinical outcomes. The article concludes that, despite advancements in treatment strategies, ongoing research is essential to optimize care for affected patients.
