Abstract

Minimally invasive approaches, especially endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), have revolutionized the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs), providing a less aggressive alternative to open surgery. This integrative review aims to synthesize the current evidence on the efficacy, safety, and limitations of minimally invasive techniques in the management of AAAs. Scientific articles published between 2013 and 2023 were analyzed using databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library. The results demonstrated that EVAR offers significant benefits in terms of lower perioperative mortality, reduced hospital stay, and faster recovery. However, challenges such as the high rate of reintervention due to complications, including endoleaks and stent migration, highlight the need for prolonged follow-up. The choice between EVAR and open surgery should consider the patient's anatomical profile and long-term risks, especially in patients with unfavorable anatomies. It is concluded that although EVAR is an effective approach, especially for high-risk patients, careful selection and long-term monitoring are essential to ensure the best clinical outcomes.
