This article sought to analyze the role of nurses in combating obstetric violence, from prevention, identification and intervention. Thus, a literature review was carried out with a qualitative approach in the databases Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences LILACS in the period from 2019 to 2023 using the key words: obstetric violence ; humanized assistance; puerperal pregnancy cycle; nursing. There is a need for a discussion on obstetric violence, for the evolution of health practices and for respect for women's rights through a multidisciplinary approach to understanding and combating obstetric violence. It should be noted that combating obstetric violence is still a challenge, as there are several gaps that need to be filled in order for this health problem to disappear and actions such as the lack of information on the part of women, the hierarchical relationship between health professionals and patients, a model of invasive and outdated techniques are some of the factors that must be changed so that this reality can be changed.
