Abstract

This article seeks to characterize the epidemiological profile of the endocrine and metabolic diseases in the state of Paraná in the period from 2019 to 2023. A quantitative and descriptive research study with a retrospective approach was carried out using data from the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DataSUS). The epidemiological characteristics were analyzed in relation to hospitalization and deaths based on variables such as year, sex, race, age and the most prevalent diseases in the period from 2019 to 2023 in Paraná. The study occurred in the period from 2019 to 2023 in Paraná, as a result there were 71,278 hospitalizations and 2,448 deaths due to endocrine, metabolic and nutritional diseases, being the main cause of both or diabetes mellitus. The main age involved was over 80 years old. It is concluded that the endocrinological and metabolic symptoms present a high rate of internalisation and mortality, with diabetes mellitus being more prevalent, however, there is a predominance in the third age and in the white world. Primary prevention of these comorbidities is essential, as is also early diagnosis and adequate treatment to obtain good results and avoid their consequences.
