This article sought to conduct a bibliographic review on oral manifestations in HIV-positive patients, to expand the knowledge of professionals regarding these lesions. A literature review with a search for scientific articles on this topic was carried out in PubMed databases; Scientific Electronic Library Online; Virtual Health Library, with articles from 2014 to 2024. HIV infection occurs through unprotected sexual intercourse, whether heterosexual or homosexual, and by sharing needles. The infected person may remain symptom-free for months, and some oral manifestations may be one of the first symptoms to be noticed, such as oral candidiasis. The dentist has a very important role in noticing these lesions, which can contribute to an early diagnosis of HIV and even treating the lesion early to provide a better quality of life for carriers. When analyzing the scope of health care for these patients, one realizes the importance of the dentist in the early recognition and correct treatment of these oral lesions to provide quality of life to patients along with the existing cocktails.
