EVALUATION OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF UV MEDICAL STUDENTS ABOUT THE PARTICULARITIES OF GYNECOLOGICAL APPOINTMENT IN THE LGBTQIA+ POPULATION

The acronym LGBTQIA+ includes lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and other gender identities outside the conventional cis heteronormative. This group faces greater vulnerability to sexually transmitted infections like HIV, especially men who have sex with men and transgender women. They require specific policies for health education, prophylaxis and screening. The study conducted at the Universidade de Vassouras-RJ intended to evaluate medical student’s knowledge of the particularities of gynecological appointment for the LGBTQIA+ population. It was an observational, cross-sectional and descriptive study, approved by the institutional research ethics committee under protocol number 5298801. The criteria for inclusion were students from the 1st to the 12th period who agreed to participate voluntarily and signed a consent form. The results showed that students are aware of the specific needs of the LGBTQIA+ population and recognize the importance of an integral and complete service in future appointments, despite claiming they had no classes about it in the undergraduate studies. In conclusion, the study evidences the need for adjustments to professional training and curricula to better serve this population.
