Abstract

The present review aimed to analyze the transformation brought about by bariatric surgery and its impact on patients' lives, considering it as a significant therapeutic intervention in the treatment of morbid obesity. The study was justified by the need to deepen the understanding of the effects of this procedure, encompassing not only weight reduction but also the physical, psychological, and social implications for individuals undergoing surgery. The methodology employed involved the careful selection of scientific articles from recognized databases, focusing on a period from 2000 to 2022. The results highlighted both substantial benefits and challenges associated with bariatric surgery, particularly concerning patients' quality of life, mental health, and nutritional status. The conclusions emphasized the importance of continuous multidisciplinary follow-up to optimize treatment outcomes and minimize potential long-term complications.
