Insomnia is a frequent sleep disorder with a significant impact on public health and quality of life. This study addresses the problem of insomnia and the focus of the research is to evaluate the causes and impacts of insomnia in medical students in Cascavel-PR. It is possible to highlight the complexity of insomnia, its physiological manifestations and the precipitating and perpetuating factors. The research involved collecting data through electronic questionnaires applied to medical students at Fundação Assis Gurgacz, using qualitative and quantitative analyses. The results indicate a prevalence of sleep-related problems among participants, with emphasis on the influence of late-night class times, intensive use of electronic devices before bed and irregularities in sleeping habits. Analysis of the results reveals that insomnia is associated with factors such as academic stress, irregular study hours, medication use and harmful nighttime habits. Given the above, it is possible to observe that insomnia among medical students is a relevant concern, requiring preventive and therapeutic approaches that consider the complexity of the academic routine and its impacts on students' mental and physical health.
