Abstract

It is known that alcohol consumption is a toxic habit that has been in humanity for centuries, despite its multiplus side effects. Some of these side effects are already well known (such as hepatotoxicity), but others still require further investigation. Meanwhile, cases of infertility are increasing. The objective of this present study is to evaluate the impact that chronic alcoholism has on fertility parameters in both sexes. Integrative review using the descriptors “alcohol”, “fertility” and “infertility” in the Scielo and Pubmed databases, of articles published between 2000 and 2024, without language restrictions. Alcohol consumption has been associated with hormonal changes and spermogram changes in men. In women, an increased chance of pregnancy was found with reduced alcohol consumption. So, it is necessary to educate individuals about the effects of this substance, as well as the importance of treatment in chronic alcoholic individuals.
