The objective of this article is to report the case of a dairy farm in the city of Toledo – PR with a diagnosis of animals reacting to the comparative cervical test for tuberculosis. The first clinical signs of the disease in the herd appeared in May 2022. Four months later, an apparently healthy animal was clandestinely slaughtered, resulting in lesions in several organs suggestive of tuberculosis. The property had a herd of 56 animals including cows, heifers and calves. Four tests were carried out, with an interval of 60 days, on all cattle on the property and in each test, there were reactive animals, indicating positivity for the disease. The reacting animals were sent for sanitary slaughter, as recommended by Normative Instruction number 10, of March 3, 2017. The last test on the property was carried out in April 2023, in which the last animals on the property were sent for sanitary slaughter, thus marking the end of the dairy farm. The importance of bovine tuberculosis refers to both the zoonotic nature of the disease and the economic losses caused, whether through the elimination of reactive animals, as well as the reduction in milk production and drop in weight gain.
