Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which has four clinical stages. In the first phase, viral incubation. In the second phase, defense cells constantly fight against virus mutations, lasting for years. With frequent attacks, defense cells are destroyed and the body is vulnerable to common pathogens. The third phase is characterized by a significant reduction in CD4 + T lymphocytes. The most common symptoms at this stage are: fever, diarrhea, night sweats and weight loss (Brazil, 2023). The last phase would be the development of AIDS itself. Over the years, great advances in the fight against HIV have been observed, generating greater survival, lower mortality and a lower transmissibility rate, offering patients most natural life possible. No less important is to emphasize that Brazil is one of the few countries that fully finances care for AIDS patients, with an estimated expenditure of 2% of the national budget (Brazil, 2023). Therefore, the present study aims to evaluate the incidence of HIV infection in the population over the age of 60 in the city of Cascavel - PR and compare it with the incidence in the state of Paraná.
