The global incidence of DM2 and obesity have increased alarmingly in recent decades and are prevalent public health problems. Metabolic surgeries are therapeutic options for both pathologies. The most common procedures are Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy. Both are found to be effective in reducing weight and improving metabolism. However, there is no consensus regarding the superiority of techniques for treating DM2, as studies on the subject are inconclusive. The objective was to compare interventions in order to clarify the best procedure for treating DM2, obesity and related comorbidities. A search for previous works was carried out on the VHL and PubMed platforms. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 24 scientific articles remained. Therefore, it was observed that the bypass has greater potency, as there is evidence that it is related to the reduction of glycated hemoglobin (HBA1c), the symptoms of acid regurgitation and the improvement in quality of life in relation to weight. Therefore, it is concluded that bypass is superior as an approach to these pathologies. However, longitudinal monitoring of the patient is necessary to evaluate potential risks and benefits of the procedure.
