Since its origins, Brazilian society has been marked by the large volume of rural properties, which have different sizes and are regulated not only by the Federal Constitution of Brazil but also by special laws, including the Land Statute and the Agrarian Reform Law. . There are numerous issues involving assets related to agrarian law, starting mainly from the importance of having security in the performance of this economic activity, which essentially occurs with the provision of guarantees for workers and small rural producers. As it is a matter that involves not only the right to property, but also has a relationship with the social function for which it is intended and the need for environmental protection, this legal research aims to resolve the doubts surrounding rural properties with smaller territorial expression, whether so-called family properties, small and medium-sized properties and the protection given to them by current legislation. The general objective presented must be achieved through bibliographic research to be developed throughout the year 2023, with transcription of legal texts, understandings of scholars and jurisprudence, selected through qualitative analysis of the selected bibliographic material. In the end, the expected result will consist of the publication of a scientific article in a legal journal of national importance, so that it can be used not only by legal professionals, but also accessible to any individual interested in the subject.
