Abstract

The search for balance between internet regulation and the protection of individual freedoms is an ongoing issue that requires collaboration between governments, international organizations, technology companies and society. The fight against lies on the internet, the protection of human rights and freedom of expression are complex issues that must be treated in a media-oriented way, in which it is possible to implement public policies for a process of teaching and individual training and in the evaluation of content of media in a critical and informed way. From this perspective, this article explores the challenges and perspectives of internet regulation in a general context. The internet presents challenges for regulators, who must balance protecting fundamental rights with promoting innovation. Through a literature review and case analysis, this study addresses two crucial aspects of the debate on internet regulation and the fight against the spread of lies on the internet, proposing actions both in media education and in public policies, aiming to implement a healthier information environment, where individuals are able to discern truth from falsehood and society has safer and more reliable communication.
