The Family Institution has undergone and is undergoing important transformations over the last few years. These changes went through significant historical moments that, directly, contributed to better understanding the current scenario of the Brazilian family, its concept and its functions. This work investigated how the practice of parental alienation of children and adolescents is understood and practiced in family relationships. Social transformations and the absence of norms that cover all important aspects of Parental Alienation were addressed, the power exercised by the alienating parent, which is capable of transforming the alienated child's thinking, as well as the possible coercive measures that can be taken, to in order to contribute to inhibiting this practice. It was found that the adoption of multidisciplinary actions by public authorities are important instruments to curb the practice of parental alienation. The objective presented here was to study parental alienation and new family relationships, through a bibliographical review on the topic, with the inclusion of published scientific articles.
