Abstract

Introduction: Chronic Renal Failure consists of kidney damage with progressive and irreversible loss of kidney function, making them unable to perform their role. Some chronic diseases, such as high blood pressure and diabetes mellitus, can contribute to this failure, often leaving the patient dependent on rinse replacement therapy, such as hemodialysis. The nursing team has a substantial role for this patient with chronic renal failure, especially when it comes to hemodialysis, as it is through this comprehensive care that guarantees the patient's quality of life. Objective: To describe the importance of nurses in treating patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis. Methodology: This is an Integrative Literature Review type of research with a descriptive and qualitative approach. Data collection was carried out through an electronic search in the Virtual Health Library (VHL/BIREME) database, from 2018 to 2023 using health descriptors. In this bibliographic review, a quantity of eleven articles were analyzed that met the previously defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. In light of this analysis, 3 axes emerged that enabled discussion and results related to the topic. Results: Through this study, results were found that pointed out and described the competencies of nurses together with their nursing team with patients with chronic renal failure in replacement therapy, highlighting the importance of this professional in the life of each user. Also, another emerging aspect, such as the negative impacts when nursing care is failed, through an increase in the infection rate, for example, and other complications. Conclusion: Through this research it is concluded that the nurse, together with the nursing team, is fundamental in the reception and care of patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis, guaranteeing the quality of life of this user when their assistance is provided correctly.
