The irrational use of antibiotics (UIA) can promote bacterial resistance, limiting the effectiveness of treatments available on the market that are caused by bacterial infection, becoming a public health problem. Furthermore, unnecessary use of antibiotics can lead to adverse side effects, such as allergies and gastrointestinal disorders, among others. The general objective of this work is to comprehensively analyze the impact of the irrational use of antibiotics and its consequences. To prepare this work, a bibliographical review of the literature on therapy was carried out to describe and present the effects of the irrational use of antibiotics, searching for important references in national and international databases. Searching for articles between the years 2020 and 2024. It is concluded that pharmaceutical professionals perform essential health services, working to promote the rational use of medicines and combating problems arising from their inappropriate use.
