The article highlights the importance of psychotherapy as a safe space for expressing and sharing emotional experiences, promoting the collective construction of meanings that can be explored to find solutions to the challenges faced in everyday life. It is hoped that this work will contribute to the understanding of Eating Disorders and pre and post bariatric surgery, identifying the main symptoms, the impact of the diagnosis on the patient's life and the relevance of the psychologist in the treatment process. The role of the psychologist in caring for patients reported with eating disorders was discussed in this article, as well as the role of the family and the factors that influence the emergence/development of Eating Disorders. The study developed an integrative approach, reviewing the literature available in books and specialized journals on eating disorders and bariatric surgery. As such, it is essentially a bibliographical review.
