LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE ABOUT LABYRINTHITIS IN THE CITY JUIZ DE FORA-MG

Introduction: Labyrinths popularly known as "Labyrinthitis" are diseases with multiple causal factors, but most often occurs secondary to respiratory tract infections or inflammation of the middle ear, which have as outcome the involvement of the inner ear, causing the development of symptoms such as headache, tinnitus, sound sensitivity, dizziness and vertigo, among these, vertigo and dizziness are the most prevalent. Objectives: to investigate the levels of knowledge about 'Labirintites' in a group of residents of the city of Juiz de Fora - MG. Methods: A total of 467 people answered the questionnaire online, however, after applying exclusion criteria, a final sample of 287 participants was obtained. Results: In the sample Predominated individuals aged between 18 and 25 years, students, with income between 1 and 2 minimum wages, who know what labyrinthitis is, but did not seek medical help in the appearance of symptoms and self-medicated to treat. Although labyrinthitis had viral or bacterial infection as the main cause, most participants did not have a previous throat infection or otitis. The most common symptoms of labyrinthitis were dizziness with a spinning sensation, nausea, and visual symptoms. Conclusion: Knowledge about the "Labirintites" was low. However, sample homogeneity can be considered a limitation.
