Abstract

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) affects hundreds of millions of people around the world, with the prevalence of this disease being higher in developing countries. This pathology has significant consequences in relation to the quality of life of patients and the institution of treatment is essential for improving their health status. However, the effectiveness of treatment depends not only on the availability of the appropriate medication, but on its correct use. The general objective of this work is to show the relevance of the pharmacist's work, in the context of pharmaceutical care for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The methodology used was a bibliographic review of the literature, scientific articles from the PubMed, Scientific Electronic Liberary Online (SciELO), VHL and Google Scholar databases were used. Articles were used from 2019 to 2024. The pharmacist can bring significant contributions to the multidisciplinary team that works in the pharmaceutical care cycle, which go far beyond the simple role of dispensing medications, being fundamental to ensuring the rational and safe use of medications.
