This article examines the intersection between good governance, transparency, and the rule of law in the legal protection of the environment, highlighting its importance for sustainable development. The growing global concern for environmental preservation underscores the need for effective approaches to ensure the planet's sustainability. Good governance is essential to ensure that policies consider environmental aspects, while transparency promotes access to information and accountability for government actions. Conversely, poor governance and lack of transparency can lead to corrupt and abusive practices, compromising economic, social, and environmental stability. The erosion of the rule of law further jeopardizes legal protection of the environment. Transparency, in turn, contributes to identifying and preventing environmental damage, strengthening public participation in decision-making processes. Legal protection of the environment depends on the effective implementation of these principles, which promote accountability, public participation, and environmental justice. The absence of good governance, transparency, and the rule of law can undermine the effectiveness of environmental laws and erode public confidence in institutions responsible for environmental protection. Measures such as strengthening law enforcement institutions, increasing transparency, and empowering local communities are essential to promote these principles and strengthen environmental protection.
