In Brazil, more than 170 thousand cases of accidents caused by scorpion stings are recorded annually, with a mortality rate of approximately 0.15%, being more common in the pediatric population, in which cardiogenic shock and acute pulmonary edema are the main causes. of death from scorpionism. Treatment comprises a symptomatic approach, associated with support and monitoring of patients' vital conditions, in addition to intravenous infusion of scorpion antivenom, which depends on the patient's clinic and age. This study aims to present the indications for anti-scorpion serum therapy, in addition to reporting immediate hypersensitivity reactions involving anti-scorpion serum. Treatment with SAEsc is indicated in cases of moderate and severe scorpionism. However, hypersensitivity reactions such as anaphylaxis and serum sickness may be observed. However, studies show that high concentrations of catecholamines after scorpion poisoning protect patients against immediate anaphylactic reactions from anti-scorpion serum.
