Orofacial Pain (OFP) is a condition that causes persistent or episodic pain in the stomatognathic system, with multiple risk factors, including emotional stress, psychosocial factors, bruxism, dental malocclusion and traumatic injuries. Its origin is complex and multifaceted. The laser is a form of electromagnetic radiation characterized by being unidirectional, monochromatic. The objective of this work is to carry out a literature review on the use of low-intensity laser therapy (LBI) as a therapeutic approach and treatment option for orofacial pain. A literature review was carried out, using articles from the following databases: PubMed, Lilacs, Scielo and Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, published in Portuguese and English between the years 2017 and 2023 with the descriptors “temporomandibular joint dysfunction”, “laser therapy ” and “orofacial pain”. Articles published in a period shorter than the time frame, duplicate articles in other languages, as well as incomplete articles or articles without free access were excluded. After screening, 28 articles were selected, in which the results showed that the laser is effective in the treatment of orofacial pain, including controlling temporomandibular dysfunction, among others, enabling a reduction in pain intensity and improvements in joint and muscle movements, which can be used in association with other auxiliary therapeutic means such as: drug therapy, acupuncture, myorelaxant plates, botulinum toxin, among others. It was observed that laser treatment brings several benefits to the individual, such as reducing pain, improving mouth opening, balancing the functions of the stomatognathic system and improving quality of life, being a valid treatment for improving orofacial pain.
