Self-medication, although ingrained in culture, contributes to a high number of deaths in the country, highlighting the need to raise awareness about the risks involved. In this context, the work highlights that Over-the-Counter Medicines (MIPs) are widely used due to factors such as easy access, affordable cost and media influence. The study warns of the potential adverse effects resulting from inappropriate use. Also highlighting the fundamental role of the pharmacist in promoting the rational use of medicines, emphasizing the importance of pharmaceutical care to guide patients and optimize pharmacotherapy. In short, the study highlights the need for adequate guidance to the population about the dangers of long-term self-medication and the importance of receiving medications suited to individual needs.
