This research consists of a literary analysis that discusses the growth of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) globally and its impact as one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality. With approximately 463 million cases worldwide and 16.8 million in Brazil alone, with projections of reaching 21.5 million by 2030, DM is characterized by the body's failure to produce or use insulin efficiently. Urbanization, changes in eating habits, physical inactivity and obesity are factors that contribute to the increase in the prevalence of diabetes. Given this situation, the objective of the study is to highlight the importance of the role of the pharmacist in primary care, monitoring drug treatment, promoting the appropriate use of medications and offering guidance to improve the quality of life of patients with type II diabetes. Therefore, pharmaceutical assistance is crucial at all levels of health care, having a significant impact on the formation of a conscious, oriented and well-informed society about their health conditions and treatment with medications.
