Abstract

This study addresses monocular vision as a form of visual impairment, highlighting its social and clinical implications, as well as its recent legal inclusion as a sensory disability. Law No. 14.126/2021 officially recognized monocular vision as a form of visual impairment, aiming to ensure equal rights and opportunities for these individuals. However, there is a significant gap in the recognition and granting of social security benefits by the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) for people with monocular vision. This study aims to investigate the reasons behind this lack of recognition and its impacts on social inclusion and equal treatment. It concludes that despite legal advancements, discrimination persists, highlighting the need for additional measures to ensure the full participation and social protection of these individuals.
