EVOLUTION OF DENTAL RECORDS FROM THE CLINIC OF THE FACULTY OF ILHÉUS WITH EMPHASIS ON ENDODONTIC TREATMENTS CARRIED OUT BY GRADUATES

Abstract

The dental record is the document where the dentist clearly and thoroughly records the patient's entire history from breastfeeding, x-ray examination, photos, medication prescriptions and complementary exams when necessary. The dental record plays an essential role in the professional life of the dental surgeon. It will document all dental procedures carried out from the moment the treatment begins to its end and during the continuation of treatments, especially in endodontic treatment, where it is necessary to monitor the remission of periapical lesions.In this way, the need for records in the patient's medical record is reaffirmed, which would assist in the reevaluation and conduct of the professional. In this study, experimental work was carried out to evaluate the dental records of patients treated at the teaching clinic of the Faculty of Ilhéus with an emphasis on the endodontic treatments carried out and the appropriate records in the respective records, with the purpose of identifying the quality of filling and packaging of the radiographs, as well as the presence or absence of periapical lesion/periapical radiolucency. The results of this research showed that of the 3000 medical records analyzed, 1300 had endodontic treatment recorded, however, only 20 were documented completely correctly. It is therefore concluded that the medical records of the Dental Clinic of the Faculty of Ilhéus need to be filled out clearly, containing all information regarding the patient's treatment and well stored, as they provide important information to the professional and legally protect the Institution.
