Abstract

Brazil is considered one of the largest meat exporters in the world, which leads to the need to adopt methods to increase the efficiency of production systems. Among these, there is the use of zootechnical means, such as animal identification. There are several forms of identification, divided into traditional (tattoo, fire marking and conventional earring) and electronic (electronic earrings, necklaces, injectable transponders and intra-ruminal bolus). Therefore, the purpose of the work is to evaluate the time of the implementation stages of two methods: one traditional and one electronic, presenting the main advantages and implications for management. The study was carried out in the municipality of Cacoal- Rondônia, with 50 cattle, with an average age of 12 to 18 months, which were separated into two batches. The first batch consisted of 25 animals; conventional ear tags were used. In the second batch, there were also 25 animals, but these were subjected to the electronic earring (button). The results demonstrated that the average time of the containment stage was significant (p=0.4322). In the application they were practically the same, showing no significance (p=0.1204), while the animal data reading was significant (p=9223) and the averages were very different between both, demonstrating that the electronics were much more agile and efficient.
