Abstract

Breast milk is indispensable for the proper growth and development of the child, because it contains all the nutritional and immunological properties it needs. Despite so many advantages, the number of cases of early weaning in Brazil is still high, a factor that has important consequences for children's health. This study aims to identify the factors that influence early weaning in multiparous, in four UBS of the city of Paulista-PE. It is a descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative approach, with the voluntary participation of 54 multiparous women, with infants less than or equal to six months old. When analyzing the results of the referred study, it was identified that the belief of weak milk, the influence of family and friends, information deficits and the use of artificial nozzles are factors influencing early weaning in this group. It also allows us to affirm that success for exclusive breastfeeding is not related to an isolated factor, but to a set of social, psychological and cultural factors. The nurse was appointed as the professional promoter of the breastfeeding, as it acts directly in the health care of women and children.
