Women in society often face hierarchy and subordination in relation to men. This hierarchy manifests itself in several aspects, such as domestic and family violence. The present study aims to investigate the effectiveness of the Maria da Penha Law in combating violence against women from a regional perspective, focusing on the municipalities served by the 4th BPM of Tocantins. The aim is to understand the application of the law, the results achieved and the challenges faced in reducing rates of gender-based violence. The research uses a quantitative and qualitative approach, combining statistical analysis of data on arrests and police incidents with documentary analysis. Preliminary results indicate a significant increase in the number of arrests made based on the Maria da Penha Law in the municipalities served by the 4th Military Police Battalion, suggesting greater awareness and application of the legislation. However, there is an increase in cases of violence, especially femicide, highlighting the need for more effective preventive measures and protection for women in the region. Given the results, the importance of the Maria da Penha Law as an instrument to combat gender-based violence is evident. However, there are persistent challenges that require a multidisciplinary approach, involving not only law enforcement but also education, awareness and support for victims.
