PHARMACEUTICAL ATTENTION IN THE CARE OF ELDERLY PATIENTS

Abstract

Introduction: Pharmacists are able to discuss and understand therapeutic and clinical issues due to their comprehensive professional training and their understanding of various areas of healthcare. Objective: To investigate the role of pharmaceutical care in the care of elderly patients, evaluating its effectiveness in optimizing drug therapy, preventing adverse events related to medications and improving the quality of life in this population. Methodology: To carry out this work, a collection of information will first be developed from bibliographic sources, on “pharmaceutical care in the care of elderly patients”, within the standards and resolutions applied in Brazil, through articles, theses, books, websites, between others. Conclusion: Throughout this work, it was possible to highlight the importance of the pharmacist's role in promoting the rational use of medicines, preventing adverse events related to pharmacotherapy and improving the quality of life of the elderly.
