INCORRECT DISPOSAL OF MEDICINES AND ITS ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS

Incorrect medication disposal has led to many environmental disasters. Pharmaceutical medicines have the function of treating diseases of all types of pathology. As a result, the population has been having free access to some medications that do not require a medical prescription and end up consuming more medications compared to what is needed in their homes. This trend leads to greater consumption of waste and waste and, without guidance on how to dispose of them properly, leads to an increase in environmental contamination. The most common way to dispose of it is by throwing it in trash cans, sinks and toilets. Therefore, the objective of this work is to guide the population on possible means of waste disposal. The methodology of this research was using qualitative methods between 2011 and 2024. Conclusion, the pharmaceutical professional is the best advisor at these times, contributing to the environment and clarifying doubts among the population on how to dispose of expired or disused medicines.
