Reproductive Rights. Public Health Legal Abortion.Abstract
The article addresses the difficulty in implementing legalized abortion in Brazil, considering the rate of deaths and related occurrences. It relied on research to corroborate the premises of the study, using public data and published research to hypothesize about the challenges of effectively enforcing a long-awaited public policy. The debate is complex and challenges its implementation as a public health measure. Unsafe abortion is a major cause of maternal mortality in Brazil as many women resort to clandestine abortion. Challenges in implementing legal abortion include lack of information and sexual education, lack of family and partner support, absence of reproductive support policies, institutional and cultural barriers, and influence of religious issues. Additionally, political and social resistance, lack of support from healthcare professionals, and influence of conservative and religious groups hinder its effective implementation. Lack of training and awareness among healthcare professionals about women's reproductive rights contributes to inadequate care and discrimination. Comprehensive sexual education and ensuring reproductive rights are essential to protect women and prevent clandestine abortion.
