Abstract

Evaluating the outcomes of pediatric surgery in congenital liver diseases is a vital field of medicine that aims to understand the outcomes and effectiveness of surgical procedures in children with liver conditions present from birth. These diseases can range from bile duct malformations to congenital hepatitis, posing a significant challenge for clinicians and researchers in the search for effective treatments and better long-term outcomes. Objective: The objective of this systematic literature review is to analyze and synthesize studies published in the last 10 years on the evaluation of the results of pediatric surgery in congenital liver diseases. It is intended to identify patterns, trends and gaps in the literature, providing insights for improvements in clinical care and direction for future research. Methodology: The methodology of this review followed the guidelines of the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) checklist. Searches were carried out in the PubMed, Scielo and Web of Science databases, using the descriptors "pediatric surgery", "congenital liver diseases", "results assessment", "children" and "liver surgery". Inclusion criteria were studies published in the last 10 years, focused on evaluating surgical outcomes in pediatric patients with congenital liver diseases. Exclusion criteria included studies unrelated to the topic, isolated case reports and studies with small samples. Results: The results of this review highlighted several important aspects in evaluating the results of pediatric surgery in congenital liver diseases. Studies were identified that addressed the postoperative survival rate, improvement in quality of life, the occurrence of complications, such as liver cirrhosis, and the need for additional procedures over time. In addition, prognostic factors were discussed, such as the patient's age, severity of the disease and type of surgical procedure performed. Conclusion: In conclusion, evaluating the results of pediatric surgery in congenital liver diseases is essential to improve clinical care and quality of life for these patients. This review provides a comprehensive view of surgical outcomes, highlighting the importance of continued clinical monitoring and research in this area to develop best practices and more effective treatments.
