This article sought to discuss the abuse of family power and property violence that exists in today's society. This topic was overlooked by the legal community for a long time, but today it is known that these forms of abuse have physical, psychological, emotional and financial consequences for the victim, who is protected by law. The work was done through an exploratory reading of articles, doctrines and laws, and the data was also analyzed using a qualitative approach. In view of this, it was realized that property violence generally occurs within the family and victims become more vulnerable to the abuse of family power, and the lack of information on this topic makes it more difficult for property violence practices to be recognized as crime by victims. Therefore, it is important to create a safe and non-judgmental environment for the victim to feel welcomed when reporting the crime, as the Maria da Penha Law ensures.
