Abstract

The therapeutic approach to inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, has evolved considerably in recent decades. This study reviews emerging therapeutic approaches for IBD, highlighting biological therapies, gut microbiome modulation therapies, and multidisciplinary approaches. Biological therapies, such as anti-TNF agents and anti-integrin antibodies, have shown efficacy in inducing and maintaining remission in patients with IBD. However, it is important to consider the potential adverse effects and cost associated with these treatments. Microbiome modulating therapies such as probiotics, prebiotics and fecal transplantation are gaining prominence due to the crucial role of the gut microbiome in the pathogenesis of IBD. The multidisciplinary approach, involving gastroenterologists, nutritionists and psychologists, is essential to provide comprehensive and individualized assistance to patients. Furthermore, more studies are needed to explore new therapies, identify biomarkers, and promote equitable access to treatments for patients with IBD. Collaboration between researchers, healthcare professionals and patients is essential to advance the management of these complex conditions.
