This study discusses the crucial role of education in promoting environmental sustainability. It begins with an analysis of the concept of sustainability, emphasizing the need to balance economic development with environmental preservation. Next, the importance of education as a tool to promote an ethical and sustainable culture is examined, addressing the influence of individual inclinations and the search for ethical virtues in the formation of environmental awareness. The relevance of sustainable education from the first years of life to adulthood is also highlighted, emphasizing the role of schools, companies and organizations in disseminating sustainable practices and ethical values. The methodology adopted was based on a systematic bibliographic review, which allowed a critical analysis of the selected sources and the identification of gaps in existing knowledge. It is concluded that education for sustainability is fundamental to face contemporary environmental challenges and build a more equitable and healthy future for present and future generations. This approach, centered on the literature review, proved to be effective in understanding the complex interactions between education and sustainability, contributing to the development of a solid theoretical basis and the engagement of all sectors of society in promoting sustainable practices.
