The objective of this article is to describe the acute and chronic clinical consequences, and the social repercussions of men living with diabetes. Exploratory, descriptive research with a qualitative approach. Data collection took place through a semi-structured interview using a pre-established script, in two basic health units and a reference institution in secondary care, in the city of Fortaleza - CE. Men with diabetes were interviewed, with a total of 16 participants. From the analyzed data, the following categories were identified: Feelings expressed after the discovery of the disease; Clinical consequences arising from diabetes; Social experiences after diagnosis. In this study, it was noticed that feelings and emotions after diagnosis are capable of directly interfering with the acceptance of the disease and its care. In addition, it was evident that the interviewees sought professional help due to some symptom and not in a preventive way.
